xx Overnight Electricity access - for Sleep machine
« Thread started on: Dec 30th, 2017, 2:13pm »

Hello fellow pilgrims, I am contemplating the 88 temple Way in Sept/ October 2018.
I have a sleep machine. Would appreciate an understanding on how accessible power points are each night at Accommodation sites and if the points are close to the beds.
I carried my machine and used it every night on a couple of caminos recently. I didnít book Accommodation ahead of time either. Is Accommodation and PowerPoints as accessible on the 88 temple Way? Thanks Gail

It depends on the types of accommodations you're thinking of staying in. The free 'shacks' known as Zenkonyado may only have power 50% of the time. The free 'huts' usually don't have power, but might. The free temple accommodations known as 'tsuyado' usually have power but not always. The paid minshuku, ryokan and hotels should pretty much always have power. Basically, there's free lodgings that don't have power and others that do. If you medically require power then you may want to mostly stick to paid lodgings.

If you absolutely require power socket stick to paid accomodation though then you should book it at least on previous night. Paid accomodations always have them though. Might be on less optimal location but good thing about futons is it's easier to set them up than western bed smiley so you can sleep next to power socket if you want. Might need to shuffle furniture a bit but that's it

Even if you stay in paid accommodations, there may be only one electrical socket in your room, it may be far from the bed, and it may be full. You should definitely carry an extension cord if you need your machine near or at your bed. (A CPAP or similar?) Also, depending on the country you're from, make sure you have the correct plugs for Japan.

Excelent point. If yo need more than 1(say phone that works also as alarm clock) ability to split one socket to two could be handy. Far from bed is less of issue though as the futon is easy enough to shuffle around cheesy Did that couple times myself. If you stay in business hotel I have yet to stay in one that doesn't have socket near the bed though but of course better safe than sorry!
